Ahh, San Diego. Known nationwide as “America’s Finest City,” San Diego is famous for their beautiful sandy white beaches and their deliciously fine weather. And let’s not forget the video game that coined the infamous phrase after ACME’s powerful supervillain, “Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?” San Diego in California houses over 1.4 million residents, while just over 51,000 of those residents claim to be vapers. With so many vapers in one city, it’s no wonder that vape shops have sprung up all over the city. If you’re ever traveling throughout sunny California and find yourself in need of vaping supplies, now you can check this handy local vape shop guide of six vape shops in the surrounding area and know exactly what awaits you inside that store. Each of these vape shops are unique in their own way, and it was a joy to visit each one. Let’s take a look at some of them, shall we?
1. The Switch SD Shop
First on our list of San Diego vape shops is The Switch SD Shop. Google rates them a 4.8 out of over 60 reviews, so I headed over to check the shop out. The first thing I noticed about the shop was the lighting. The low hanging lamps cast soft shadows over the entire shop, and multiple fluorescent bulbs lit everything nicely so that I could see everything in a calming ambient glow. Several flat wooden barstools lined up near the long wooden counter, and the dark brown wood floors were clean and shiny. Several e-liquid posters lined the wall, with big names like Naked and Mr. Meringue taking up a good bit of wall space. The next thing I noticed was the huge selection of e-liquids. I was delighted that they sold Ethos Treats eLiquid, which features a delicious marshmallow cereal treat with a touch of vanilla (one of my favorites!). The guy behind the bar was super friendly and let me sample a few of their e-liquids, which not all shops are willing to do. I asked what kind of hardware they carried, since I didn’t see it when I walked in, and he informed me that they carried a variety of Smok, Aspire, and Horizontech behind the counter. While there wasn’t a TV or a pool/ping pong table like I’ve seen in other shops, they did have a coffee machine and a nice comfy couch to sit and relax in. The artwork was a nice touch, and the place had a very relaxed and comfortable vibe. Definitely a great vape shop to start out with, and I highly recommend if you’re looking for a good place to stop, refuel, and hang out for a bit if you’re in the San Diego area.
2. E Cig Creations
Second on our list of local vape shops in San Diego is E Cig Creations. Google rates them a 4.8 out of over 140 reviews, and I was a bit curious to see what the “creations” part of their title stood for. Sure enough, this shop mixes their own e-liquids, which is always a cool experience to see how good of an imagination the vape mixologist has in creating in-house flavors. As soon as I walked in, I could see the enormous blackboard towards the back that was completely full of in-house made e-liquids. They had flavors like Jellyfish (fruit), Pirate’s Booty (candy), and Pinky Swear (dessert), which made me laugh and wish I had time to try everything on their enormous menu. The bar was neat and clean, with comfy high-backed chairs ready to serve their waiting customers. A large TV was behind the bar, making it feel like I was ready to vape and watch the game. On the left of the bar were two large glass cases filled with accessories and hardware, ready to offer supplies to the vapers desperately in need of a fresh coil or a completely new vape setup. A comfy leather chair and sofa took up the rest of the free space in the shop, making a relaxing environment to hang out and enjoy your fresh purchases. They also offer a customer rewards system that encourages people to return, and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the things they carried and e-liquids that they mixed. I was happy that I was able to sample the flavor before I bought it, but definitely keep in mind you can’t keep asking for new e-liquids if you constantly don’t like what they mix. Just remember that you’re also paying for the time and ingredients as well as the enjoyment of having your own personal batch of e-liquid created in front you, and you’ll highly enjoy your time here.
3. No Butts About It
Third in our list of vape shops in the surrounding San Diego area is No Butts About It. I love shops with a sense of humor and could certainly appreciate the play on words as well as the double meaning of no cigarettes allowed! Google rates them a 4.7 out of over 130 reviews, so I headed over to check out the shop. First thing I noticed about this shop was the crazy colors of the carpet the walls, the shelves, and everything in between; it almost felt like I was in a psychedelic tattoo parlor, where all the crazy colors were inverted into unicorn shades of pink and blue. I was delighted to see that this shop had a HUGE selection of e-liquid that lined nearly every available space there was, from glass cases to racks on the walls, and counter space behind the desk. This shop carried a branch off e-liquid of Dinner Lady, called Dinner Lady Summer Holiday, as well as The Milkman, Twist eLiquids and a huge selection of Charlie’s Chalk Dust. Towards the back of the shop, there was a bearded skeleton standing guard over a bubbling fish tank, an acoustic guitar on the wall next to the large TV, and a few chairs surrounding a small circular table. If I had a basement vape shop, then I’d want it to look exactly like this. On the right side of the shop, there was an endearing jumbled mess of vape decals, receipts, and vaping hardware that only a shop veteran would know where to find. The staff were very engaging and friendly and offered to let me sample some of their e-liquids that I wasn’t as familiar with. The prices were reasonable, the customer service was outstanding, and the atmosphere was fantastic. If you like to enjoy your experience in a vape shop, definitely check this shop out; I promise you won’t be disappointed!
4. Illusions Vape Smoke Shop
Fourthly, we have Illusions Vape Smoke Shop in our list of San Diego vape shops. ally wasn’t my cup of tea. There was an enormous selection of glassware and bongs, lighters, and tobacco products, but the tiny vape section was located right at the front of the store and was very limited as to what they sold. While I did see a few brands I recognized like Donuts, Snap eLiquids, and One Hit Wonder, I was looking for more of a vape shop than a smoke shop. The staff was friendly, but since this wasn’t the traditional vape shop, there wasn’t much they could do to help me. Their vaping hardware consisted of a few small and outdated tanks, rechargeable batteries, and battery chargers. There was a leather couch that was clean but didn’t look very used, as well as a TV screen that was basically a closed-loop security screen. It seemed that the addition of “vape” to their name was more of an “illusion” than an actual vape shop, which I can’t necessarily call them out on false advertising. Their yelp page was littered with photos of busty and seductive women vaping but not really a lot of actual shop photos, which seemed more like clickbait. While this wasn’t a terrible vape shop, the name fooled me more than I realized, making this shop true to its name...an illusion of a vape shop that wasn’t something I was looking for. Just goes to show you why I’m always a little cautious before visiting a “vape/smoke shop.”
5. Vape Kingz
We’re nearly there! The fifth shop on our list of local San Diego vape shops is Vape Kingz. Google rates them as a 4.6 out of nearly 60 reviews, so I headed over to see this self-proclaimed king of the vapers. The first thing I noticed about the place was the calming interior, with muted gray tones on the floor and walls, with a pop of color thanks to the red high-back bar chairs. There was a decent amount of e-juice, littered with famous brands like Reds Apple eJuice, Naked100, Taffy King, and Ethos Treats. It’s always nice to see brands that do very well inside other vape shops because if all else fails, you can at least get something that you know and like. Their hardware selection was a little sparse, mostly including pen-style mods, older tanks, and various drip tips. The staff were kind and attentive and made sure that they answered all of my questions about other types of hardware and accessories. While I wouldn’t say this shop is the king of all other vape shops, it was a nice experience and I was glad that I had stopped by.
6. Eliminator Vapes
And last but certainly not least, we have lucky number seven in our list of local vape shops, Eliminator Vapes. I thought it only right to finish off our trek of vape shops with a shop that has everything: in-house juices with a beautiful bar, premium brand e-liquids, hardware, and a great hangout area to sample your purchases and relax. Google rates them a 4.6 out of nearly 40 reviews, so I thought I’d say adios to San Diego by stopping by. I immediately loved the interior of the place, with its shiny white floors, stone overlay, and wide spacious hang-out area. On the left of the entryway, there was a large and spacious bar that was stocked with well-known favorites like Twist eLiquids, Red’s Apple eJuice, and Aqua eJuice. There were several comfy bar stools that lined up next to the stone countertop and seemed like a classy bar with VIP service, vape style! Since they already had brand name vape juices, I was content to just browse their in-house e-liquids. Their hardware was located directly when you walk in, neatly housed in a glass case. Their customer service was friendly and attentive, and they happily obliged my inquiries about their best house-made e-juice. Right before I left, I discovered that they also had a website, which is often a rare thing to have a vape shop as well as a shop website. Their website offered a lot of the hardware and accessories that their shop didn’t have immediately, so it was nice to have options outside of the actual brick-and-mortar shop. I was very satisfied with the shop and was sad to leave such a beautiful environment. If you’re looking for a vape shop that’s both a friendly environment and has a website to supplement the flavors and hardware they may not immediately have on hand, I highly suggest checking out Eliminator Vapes if you should ever pass through San Diego!
