“Everything is bigger in Texas!” or so the saying goes. Houston has made a name for themselves with their Space Center, their love of fast food, and more recently, their love of vaping. It’s estimated that out of Houston’s 2.3 million residents, 83, 258 (and counting!) people vape. That’s quite a lot of clouds! And with a city that’s famous for their “go big or go home” mantra, lots of clouds need to be powered by lots of vape shops. Instead of sending you through the jungle of vape shops aimlessly, I’ve written a handy guide of some of the best shops that Houston has to offer. Follow me through this list of shops, and enjoy all that Houston Texas has to offer! Feel free to comment below on a shop that I’ve missed or should check out. With a city larger than life, there’s always bound to be a vape shop that I’ve unintentionally and most unfortunately left out. But enough chit-chat. Let’s dive right into our seven popular vape shops that you really don’t want to miss!
First up on our list of local Houston vape shops is Vapor-Lot. Google gives this place a 4.8, and with over 100 reviews, that’s pretty impressive. All of the reviews rave about their customer service and clean establishment, so I headed there to check it out. Man, this place deserves all the stars! Super clean and super neat, with welcoming tones and a very chill vibe. Their huge e-liquid section of CBD and traditional vape juices was well-stocked and neat, with every ejuice neatly in its own little cubby. Their hardware selection was pretty vast as well and was securely kept behind clean glass. The black leather bar stools, while a little ripped and worn, actually had a back-rest, which is awesome since I find most bar stools uncomfortable if you sit there for too long. They also had some comfy couches, worn in by many customers relaxing with their new purchases. They also had a huge TV where customers could hang out and watch whatever was playing, and it seemed like it was a familiar spot for relaxation in puffy clouds. And finally, the staff were super attentive and welcoming, making sure that I had everything I needed (and wanted!) by the end of my visit. Overall, I loved this place and was pleasantly surprised to find that everything online was even better in person. They even had a discount program and honored Yelp check-in discounts, so if you’re looking for a great bang for your buck as well as a fantastic consumer experience, Vapor-Lot is the spot for you!
2. Vape City
Second on our journey through Houston’s vape shops is Vape City. Google rates them a 4.8 out of (get this) a whopping 419 reviews. Let that sink in for a moment. Out of the hundreds of thousands of vapers in Houston, over 400 vapers felt like they had a pleasant enough experience to post on Google that they enjoyed their trip that much. I had to visit this shop if for no other reason than to see what all of the Google reviews were about. And boy, was I impressed! Vape City has one of the best hardware selections I’ve ever seen. They had the newest Smok setup, the I-Priv (which is voice controlled) and it’s also the setup that I personally use. They had Sigelei Snow Wolf and Cobra mods, Smok Alien and Mag kits, Suorin Pod Systems, iSticks, Juul, and Vaporesso Revenger X setups. Their e-liquid selection was just as extensive, with CBD juice and hookah options as well as traditional ejuice, including brands I’ve only ever seen online, such as Slushy Man, Space Jam, Cuttwood, and Zonk. They had bongs, finger spinners, water pipes, rolling papers, tobacco products and everything in between. The staff were knowledgable about everything in the shop and gave superb customer service in every aspect. Those Google reviews are certainly on point, and I can only imagine those who loved the shop and didn’t give a review! If you’re in Houston and are looking for a good vape shop, swing by Vape City and see for yourself why all of their reviews add up to a whopping high score.
3. The Vapor Lair
Thirdly, we have The Vapor Lair on our trek through the the Houston vape shops. What’s cool about this shop is that there are two locations, so depending on which one is closer, you should be able to get a great experience at either one. I chose to go to the one at 515 Westheimer Rd, so if you’ve been to the other Vapor Lair at 5201 Richmond Ave E., please let me know how it was! Google rates the former at 4.5, and the latter at 4.8. I started to read some of the reviews online to see if I could figure out why people were happier with one shop and not the other. One thing I noticed about the reviews online is that their prices were a little on the pricier side. Unfortunately, shops don’t have as much freedom with prices as online shops due, since they have to pay to rent the place, multiple building and state taxes, and since they buy in bulk, they end up having to pay a lot at once for a big shipment of product. Hardware is something that doesn’t move as quickly as e-liquid, so those prices tend to be a little higher in-store. That being said, The Vapor Lair would be a great spot to get something quick that you needed, like a coil, replacement glass, or new e-liquid. The staff was friendly and attentive, and while their interior decor was a little sparse, the shop was clean and the air wasn’t littered with clouds like some other vape shops I’ve frequented. The entire back wall was well stocked with e-liquid, some brand I knew and some were new to me. Their hardware was enclosed in a glass case, stocked with Juul pods, batteries (the awesome purple 18650 4000mAh kind!), assorted drip tips, and various kits. I didn’t see any chairs or couches like some other shops, so I took that to mean this was more of a place to visit if you were looking for a quick vape shopping trip. Overall, this was an average vape shop and if you need something in a pinch and don’t want to spend a lot of time, The Vapor Lair would be your best bet.
4. Absolute Vapor
Fourth on our local guide of Houston vape shops is Absolute Vapor. While this shop wasn’t very big, it went back a great deal so it was certainly “bigger on the inside” (a reference for all of my Doctor Who fans!) I noticed that the place was clean and well-stocked without feeling cluttered. I loved how all of the coils were neatly hung on a rack behind the front desk, their hardware smartly displayed in a glass case, and all of their e-liquid was strategically stacked on the wall. I was impressed by this shop because they had several e-liquids I’d heard about but never known any shops to carry, such as Boosted E-liquids (which is a company that names all of their flavors after various car-related items and that auto enthusiasts would instantly recognize), Zonk, and Fryd. They also carried Google rates Absolute Vapor a 4.8, which is the typical rating a good shop in the area receives. Their customer service was on point and even though the shop was bustling with customers, they took their time to answer each customer and make all feel welcome. I was pleased to say that this shop was one of the upscale yet fairly priced shops I’ve been too, for me, customer service with high-class service is always a place to remember and return.
5. Artisan Vapor Company
We’re nearly there! Fifth on our list of Houston vape shops is Artisan Vapor Company. I’m always interested to try out “bar” type vape shops, where they hand-make their signature e-liquids in front of you, and you can see exactly what flavors you’re trying before you buy it. I heartily enjoyed visiting this shop, for the sheer atmosphere when you walk into the place. Dark and calming colors greet you as you step inside, and soft lights are littered throughout the ceiling. You feel like you’re in a Vermont style log cabin, with a roaring fire and two leather couches on either side. table off the side, and a long sprawling bar with chalkboards displaying their house favorites. All of their handmade e-liquids are displayed on a wooden shelf off behind the counter, giving off a rugged rustic look. And finally, a sturdy tile counter with a slab of wood laid on top completes the log cabin decor. Thanks to my childhood, I’ve always had a deep affection for warm wood tones that decorate interiors and upon discovering the Artisan Vapor company, I absolutely fell in love with all of the wood elements in this place. The staff were just like the shop, warm and welcoming, and full of good suggestions on which of their e-liquids to try. Google rates them a 4.7 out of nearly 200 reviews, so that should give you some idea of how loved this place really is. If you’re looking for a unique vaping experience, I highly recommend you try this place. I’ve visited their website before for a complete list of their flavor offerings and noticed that they have different franchises throughout the company. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for more of these franchises in my travels, and I urge you to do the same.
6. The Vapor Gypsy
Sixth on our Houston vape shop guide is The Vapor Gypsy. One thing that amazed me about this shop was the sheer size of the interior, as it stretches over quite a large square footage. And once I stepped inside, my amazement was even greater. If you love Halloween and have a fun free spirit view of life, you will absolutely adore the inside of this shop. Old-fashioned chandeliers and wooden shelves lined the place, displaying the various wares in soft and glowing lamplight. As with any true gypsy, there are other things to buy, such as clothing, artwork, scarves, jewelry, handbags, and just about anything you can think of that a gypsy caravan would carry. The ejuice is all lined up against the back walls, neatly organized and color coordinated. They have name brands as well as house-brands, and the staff were super knowledgeable about which ones would meet my preferences. They had a good selection of vaping hardware, accessories, and CBD products, which is quickly gaining traction throughout the US. Out of 127 reviews, Google lists this place at a 4.7. During my travels, I’ve noticed that it’s always an encouraging sign to see a high number of reviews in correlation to the high rating. While yes it’s true that most people who have a bad experience will leave a bad review and bring down the ratings, if you have a truly exceptional experience, you’re more than likely to rate that shop with the intention of spreading a positive word. I was enchanted with the decorum of this shop and would have loved to spend more time just browsing amongst the many things this shop had in stock. Overall, a lovely experience that was well worth my visit.
7. Houston Vape King
And last but certainly not least, our final Houston vape shop is the Houston Vape King. What better way to finish off our list of local vape shops than with a royal flourish? This shop was rated at 4.5 out of over 100 reviews by Google, so it’s definitely a shop worth checking out. The first thing I noticed when I walked through the door was an enclosure with the words “Cloud Chamber” scrawled in dark graffiti lettering. It’s actually a place where vapers can go to puff on their newest purchases to their heart's content, without disturbing other patrons with their clouds. I found that ingenious and uber considerate, considering that some people don’t like to walk straight into a cloud of vapor the moment that the shop doors open. I wish that more shops would consider doing something like this, seeing as how everybody wins with an enclosed cloud chamber room. Aside from that, there’s a great selection of ejuices, including some well-known favorites like Aqua, Kilo Moo Series, and Burst eJuice. Their hardware was well-stocked behind a glass case and had all of the latest products from Smok, Vaporesso, Sigelei, and other well-known hardware suppliers in the industry. The staff were helpful and attentive and listened to my preferences for fruit and candy e-liquids instead of dessert and milky flavors. While I wasn’t able to try any eliquid at the counter, I appreciated their advice and ended up loving my new e-liquid, Citrus Burst by Burst eJuice. If for no other reason to try out the Cloud Chamber, I highly recommend swinging by the Houston Vape King shop for all of your vaping needs.
And there you have it! Seven incredible vape shops that not only add to Houston’s colorful atmosphere but also give richness to Houston’s vaping community. Powering your clouds doesn’t have to be a chore that you dread browsing around on Google for. Visit one, visit them all, and please let us know what you think! Vaping is a wonderful hobby that allows you to meet fellow vapers, trade flavors, and hang out with. New hardware means new toys, with better upgrades to firmware and design. And in the never-ending game to find the next best flavor, hopefully, this guide will help you discover some cool new places that you can try out for yourself. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, check out this list and see if any are on your way. Reading about them is one thing; but actually visiting is something totally different, and while at first, it might seem a little intimidating, you’ll look back and be glad you checked out some of Houston’s finest vape shops. Vape happy my friends, and ciao for now, until we meet again in the next article!
